Dr. McLaren has over a decade of experience providing psychological treatment to teens and adults in individual and group settings. Utilizing psychodynamic, empirically grounded theories, assessment methods, and techniques, she is qualified to address a full range of client mental-health concerns. Her warm and disarming approach helps teens and adults feel comfortable to explore their feelings, thoughts, and behaviors for purposes of making meaningful change in their lives. Her professional training and clinical skills are wide-ranging and include alternative programs for at risk middle and high school aged children, work in shelters, group homes, psychiatric hospitals, and private practice settings. Dr. McLaren brings a compassionate, easing presence to struggling families and their children.
Dr. McLaren also is qualified to provide comprehensive psychological and educational/neuro-psych assessments for children, teens, and adults. Her training and experience in the field of assessment enable her to tailor a test battery specific to each individual’s needs. She has a unique way of making the testing experience positive and enjoyable with her easy-going, attentive, and disarming approach. Her evaluation process can address cognitive, academic, emotional, and interpersonal strengths and weaknesses, clarify diagnosis, and aid in developing a comprehensive treatment plan. Depending on the referral question, areas assessed may include intellectual abilities, academic skills, attentional variables, visual and auditory processing systems, reading ability, memory and learning differences, and psychological and personality traits. When explaining test results, Dr. McLaren uses clear and logical language and patiently addresses questions and concerns.
